When I was looking at the screen dumps for IBusinessPromoter there was a screen which showed you your position for keywords on search engine. Also percentage improvement.
I think a tool which could show this, maybe a graph showing the position as it improves over a time.
Although simple the current position and the last position would do.
I've been searching for a free tool to do this, but haven't found one.
I guess I could write one easily enough, but I don't want to have yet another project :(

ReplyDeleteI did use Google Webmasters and its Top Search Queries for this kind of purpose but nowadays my site has settled down in SERPS and I use this feature less and less.
One simple (and free) thing to do would be to record Webmaster results in Excel and use the chart wizard to create a graph.
I do spend a bit of time each day doing my "favourite" searches and seeing where my site lies in the results. When I do this I'm not just interested in my site but what else is happening around me. For example, there are 3 or 4 sites who always come up around mine in the SERPs. I like to see if these are moving up or down and also if new sites are appearing in the same positions in the results and may knock me down.

ReplyDeleteI think I did very briefly look at some IBP material about 6 months ago but didn't work with it. I was very cost-conscious in the beginning because I was unsure about the product and possibility of any sales.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite searches are pretty basic - invoice software, invoicing software. As I mentioned many posts ago though, even though these are the most searched for items according to tools like wordtracker, they still represent less than 4% of my hits from search engines (they're representing a smaller and smaller proportion over time). I've got lots of long-tails that bring in visitors.
I was just going to ask what searches I would be doing, then I thought, ah hang on, I have lots of sites and lots pages, where do I start.

SEOmoz Rank Checker is good as it keeps a record of previous enquiries.
