Trial links removal experiment

This month following conversations with Blue I removed the trial links from one of my programs websites. I also added a coupon code for some money off in my january sale.

I've had no sales so far.

I haven't yet analysed my new buy pass through page stats yet, so i don't know how many people thought about buying.

I have an an email today asking for the trial link, which I gave them.
They asked to try the "download a free trial of you mask making template".

I know the month isn't up yet, but, comments, thoughts?

  1. How many people are clicking Buy Now?

Also I still think the price is putting people off £16 is a lot of money. If it was me I would just have a buy now button no price shown then on the next page show the price, if you wanted keep the
same price on the Buy Now page and see what the stats say then.

  2. One other thing would be that perhaps people hitting your site are just after printable maks templates for free, I am kind of getting this feeling about my own site www.kidscd.co.uk the stats are good
but I only get a couple of people clicking buy now.

I'm considering making the software free but running some affiliate adverts within it.

    [08:21] Aaron: ask your viewers
[08:22] Aaron: i.e what brought them to the site
[08:22] Aaron: were they interested in purchasing software or looking for free masks
[08:22] Aaron: after viewing our software likely hood of purchase
[08:23] Aaron: you would need to put something on your site like an image Win a copy of kidsmaskprint to get there attention
[08:23] Aaron: sign up to this trial http://www.providesupport.com/ put the code in your site you can hide the button but on the pc app you can see live visitors and you can start a sales chat with them

I've just noticed I already had the analytics code on my ShareIT page.

However on the new Buy page, there was 64 unique views, time on page 2:07, bounce rate 72%. The bounce rate is odd, why would they stop that page.

On the ShareIT page theres 293 unique page views and 2:34 on the page and 74% bounce rate.

  4. I think blues suggestion of affiliate schemes is a valid
one. £16 isn't a lot of money to you (though a customer
may be unwilling to pay that much :( for the software)
Can you still make a worthwhile profit by lowering the
price? I think it's likely people are looking for either
printable (from the site) or real kids masks. Can you
rent sales space to a website competing on the same
    keywords?

  5. We to start with, I guess I'll have to wait till February before I change the price, with my vouchers now in place it could upset people I remove it before February.

From February I think I will reduce the price to below £10. It a nice easy thing to try. I can't see I have any choice, worthwhile or not.

Yeah you right people are look for printable mask templates, the page with those keywords does the best.

I'm hesitant to abandon my program and move down another route with the site, as I have put a lot of work into it and paid a lot of money into its development, I would have liked to at least recoup
    this money.

For the moment, I would like to try simple changes which would have a big impact, e.g. the price.

Of course I think adding adense to the site, is a good idea and won't really affect the program.

I could rent sales space at a later date if all else fails, but I wouldn't now how to proceed with this.

After the price change in February, I think the next simple change (if the price doesn't bring sucess) is to follow Blues advice and require people to give their email address and maybe their name.
Then I can initially try and gain some feedback, maybe with a questionnaire. Then if things do improve I can email customers, with standard emails, hope everything installed OK, its been 10 days into
the trial etc , have you tried X, then its a few days until your trial expires etc.

    Thoughts?

  6. Small steps at a time is probably good. A change in price
won't hurt as you say. I'd also:

    1. Give SoftTester a sitewide link.
    2. Add Adsense.

A lot of work has gone into the site and product so it
would be a shame to let it go to waste.

  7. I could give SoftTester a sitewide link, but I'm more concerned with the the kids site at the moment, I mean I don't want to harm it by giving away PR etc.

Yep, it would be a waste.
